Sibling Spot: Helena, Camille, Violet, Adrian

Meet four siblings from Oaklyn, New Jersey who never let hearing loss get in the way of fun!

Big sisters Helena, Camille, and Violet do not have hearing loss but love to help little brother Adrian with his cochlear implants. Together they play, sing, and turn everything into a language learning experience!

Helena: Even though I am only 11, I have always been like ‘another mother’ to Adrian. My sisters and I go to many of Adrian’s appointments with him and try to be very interactive and involved to help him catch up with his listening and language.

Camille: I am 10 years old, and Adrian is like my little best friend. I help him put his cochlear implant processors on in the morning, correct his speech when he doesn’t pronounce something right, and draw shapes and pictures together.

Violet: I am 7 years old, and I love to play with Adrian. We play ‘family’ and ‘investigators.’ I like to help him with his processors- I even know how to change the batteries! I love when Adrian comes to watch my soccer games—he wishes he could play, but he’s still too little!

Adrian: I am 2 years old, and I love to play, sing, and go bowling with my big sisters. They help me, and we are a funny family!

One Last Word: We all want Adrian and other kids like him to be proud to have cochlear implants and know that it’s cool to be different. We hope that he is never bullied for having hearing loss and that people understand. We think in the future his speech and language will continue to improve and that he will follow his love of fire engines, police cars, and garbage trucks and become a firefighter or an engineer!

Hearing loss is part of the whole family. Share your story with us: info@hearingourway.com
