Sibling Spot: Raymond, Isaac, and Audrey

Meet Raymond, Isaac, and Audrey, siblings from Virginia who never let hearing loss get in the way of fun!

Raymond, 13, and Audrey, 6, both have bilateral cochlear implants. Isaac, 11, does not have hearing loss. These siblings love to swim, rock climb, and play basketball together.

Raymond: My brother Isaac always helped me at the pool and beach before I got the waterproof case for my cochlear implants. Even though he’s my younger brother, I feel like he watches over me a bit. We both help with Audrey, too. When she was little, I would help my mom test Audrey’s Ling 6 sounds and play with her to practice listening.

Isaac: I know a lot about cochlear implants thanks to my siblings. I can even help charge them at night and get them ready in the morning! If my grandma is watching us, I help Audrey take off her implants, put them in the dry kit, and charge the batteries. When I was younger, I sometimes wished I had cochlear implants like my siblings. I even took the toy implants from Raymond’s monkey animal and tried taping them to my ears to see what it would be like!

Audrey: I love my brothers! They are so much fun. They help me with my cochlear implants, and they play with me. I love my family, and I want to be with them always.

One Last Word: We are just a regular family. Sometimes we fight, just like any siblings do! We hope that technology keeps changing lives, especially for kids with disabilities. We want all families with kids with hearing loss to feel more connected.
